Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy
Reducing the size of the stomach leads to smaller portions of food needed to avoid feelings of hunger.
Using a laparoscopic – or keyhole - procedure a surgeon will reduce the size of the stomach by removing a portion, creating a smaller space. This will result in the need for smaller meals and create a feeling of fullness for longer periods of time. The entire procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and takes between 1 and 1.5 hours, the mechanism also involves taking away the hunger hormone (Ghrelin) producing area in the stomach, also effective in treating / curing diabetes (metabolic surgery).
Patients are able to eat normal food – albeit in smaller portions – that helps with weight loss as part of healthier and active lifestyle.
