Incisional Hernia and Abdominal Wall Hernia Repair

Incisional hernia and abdominal wall hernia repair including umbilical & epigastric hernia

An incisional hernia occurs when the hernia appears through a scar left by a previous surgical operation such as an appendix or caesarean.

A surgeon will use laparoscopic – or keyhole – surgery to insert a mesh to the weakened area after pushing the hernia back into the abdomen. A surgeon will use either sutures or a mesh to the weakened area after reducing the hernia back to the abdomen. A laparoscopic (key hole) or open technique may be used and the surgeon will be able to discuss this with the patient.
