LAP NISSEN FUNDOPLICATION

Lap Nissen Fundoplication of Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease

Key hole surgery is increasingly performed to treat the very common condition of acid reflux disease, patients stay in hospital overnight and return to normal activities in 3-4 weeks. This operation is very effective in patients with chest symptoms (asthma and long-standing cough) caused by acid reflux affecting the airways (laryngopharyngeal reflux).

Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication uses key hole surgical techniques to tighten the muscles at the bottom of the food pipe (oesophagus) which in turn helps stop the leak of acid from the stomach. This treatment is carried out under a general anaesthetic. A soft diet is advised for 3 weeks and any post treatment issues will get better over time.
