Teaching:
In July 2015 I was appointed as Honorary Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Translational & Systems Medicine at the Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick in recognition of my contribution to the academic and research work within the department of surgery. My stint as Lecturer in Surgery at the Swansea Medical School gave me ample opportunity to actively teach undergraduate medical students. This took the form of formal lectures, seminars, as well as teaching in outpatient clinics, operating theatre and on the ward. I was also involved in their appraisal as well. In addition, I also supervised post CCT fellows, specialist registrars, senior house officers as well as house officers in their care of patients and with operative procedures. I have enjoyed lecturing to as well as participating in the education of other professionals allied to medicine (nursing staff, paramedics) and would welcome opportunities to continue the same.

I routinely supervise clinical teaching of 2 medical students from Warwick Medical School who are attached to my firm on a 6 week basis as well as being an examiner for Intermediate clinical skills and final professional examination for medical students.

I routinely supervise medical students undertaking the Clinical applications special study module (CASSM) at the University of Warwick.

I have been the Director & faculty member of the Annual CCrISP Course (Care of Critically Ill Surgical patient) for SHO’s at the UHCW, approved by Royal college of Surgeons of England (since 2004)

I am Member of Faculty of Basic Surgical Skills Course (BSS), approved by Royal College of Surgeons of England (since 2004)

Examiner for Intermediate Clinical Exam (ICE) & Finals, Warwick Medical School

RITA Panel Member: Surgical SpR training programme – West Midlands Deanery.

My firm is routinely sought after by senior surgical trainees on the West Midlands surgical rotation.

Travelling Fellowship:

I was awarded the Royal College of Surgeons Travelling Fellowship to visit the Department of Gastrointestinal surgery at the Massachussets General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA in August 2002. This enabled me to broaden my clinical as well as research experience in the continuation of medical education for the future.
