12th year as Director of Care of Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) course – Royal College of Surgeons of England at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust

12 Years as Director of the Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) Course
I am honoured to have completed my 12th year as the Director of the Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) course), a flagship program by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Held at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust, this course remains an integral part of surgical education, equipping surgeons with the skills needed to manage critically ill patients effectively.
Over the years, I have seen first-hand how CCrISP has evolved to reflect the latest advancements in critical care, surgical decision-making, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The course is designed to enhance the ability of surgical trainees and consultants to:
✅ Recognize and manage deteriorating surgical patients.
✅ Improve decision-making in high-risk surgical cases.
✅ Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams for optimal patient outcomes.
✅ Develop structured approaches to surgical critical care.
Teaching and mentoring in this program continues to be a rewarding experience, and I am grateful to my co-directors, faculty, and participants for making each edition a success. As we move forward, I look forward to further refining and expanding the course to meet the evolving demands of modern surgical practice.
