The West Midlands Surgical Training Centre has launched a new mobile recording, archiving and streaming service to support surgical education and training.

The service was launched in February 2026, with Professor Vinod Menon, Director of the West Midlands Surgical Training Centre, helping to lead this important development.

Surgical training depends on access to high-quality teaching, observation and shared learning. Recording and streaming technology can help make training more flexible, allowing procedures, teaching sessions and educational content to be captured, archived and shared appropriately for learning purposes.

For trainees, this can provide valuable opportunities to revisit teaching material, observe techniques and gain insight from experienced surgical teams. For trainers, it offers another way to support structured education and professional development.

The introduction of a mobile service is particularly useful because it allows recording and streaming equipment to be used across different teaching settings, rather than being fixed to one location. This can help training centres respond more flexibly to educational needs.

As Director of the West Midlands Surgical Training Centre, Professor Menon’s involvement reflects his continued commitment to surgical education, innovation and the development of future surgeons.

The launch marks another positive step in supporting modern surgical training across the West Midlands, helping to combine clinical experience with accessible educational technology.
